The Caucasian Shepherd (Caucasian Ovcharka) is an enormous guardian that can reach 200 pounds. To the unprepared, the sheer size is daunting, yet correct handling produces deep loyalty. Males often live 10-12 years. Originating in Russia and nearby regions, they were bred to shield flocks and drive predators away. Their power and bold nature suit that role. Without early socialization and firm structure, defensive instincts can shift into aggression.
